Lovelace Watkins (1938–1995) was a Las Vegas-based singer who had some degree of success in USA and UK before disappearing into obscurity in the 1970's.
He was so popular in Europe that he was invited to entertain at the
Royal Command Performance for the Queen and The Times
called him “the best entertainer on earth".. and he guested on many TV shows for years
Became known as "The New Elvis" and "The Black Elvis" he had this magnificent booming voice and a great surplus of personality..
Below are some examples of his talent....
I think Watkins just went for the Vegas dollar and made a decent living there being a Poor Man's Sammy Davis Jr.
Largely forgotten these days but well worth a listen ......

Random Thoughts January 2013
Bored to tears with Europe and the parties fighting about it all.
Cameron seems to be trying to appease the Euro sceptics within the Conservative Party and Labour just moan about whatever the Tories do...All very dull.
Finding the football dull this year too.Seems very weird here in Scotland without Rangers in the top flight.Down in England there has hardly been a match that I have enjoyed.Van Persie at Manchester Utd is one of the few players worth watching.Wenger at Arsenal continues with his reign of mediocrity as Arsenal's last trophy win sinks into the mists of time.
Can't believe Benitez at Chelsea...what is Abramovich thinking about? Di Matteo was treated abysmally there.
On comedy front I am quite enjoying Micky Flanagan and Susan Calman. I am even warming to Rhod Gilbert in my old age.Got his 'Battenburg Tattoo' DVD recently which I enjoyed.
Cannot stand Sarah Milican though. She seems to be on everything recently,God knows why as she is as funny as a burning orphanage. She has this daft giggle that grates and she talks shite by the bucketful and prattles on about her 'boyfriend'...Well your heart certainly goes out to him.Plus she gets bigger every time she is on TV.Bet she is a pie fan..She blocked me on Twitter ages ago for informing her of how I felt.I was not rude. Has a column in Radio Times which I complained to editor about.Nice chap replied but he said the column is popular.Well I never.
Frankie Boyle also blocked me on Twitter.
I do hope I offended him
